University Law School.Net is initiating an
experiment in providing a free legal education. If University Law
School.Net is successful in meeting its objective in graduating
students with a university law school level education - there will be a
tuition for future programs and to market the materials created.
A note about traditional law school.
First a note about law schools. Basically a law school provides
guidance and a structure of the law so that it is meaningful to the
student. At least that is the theory. What a student learns and what
he gets out of law school is basically up to the student. A law
school professor in most traditional law schools can at most give you
some tools and guidance that enable the student through arduous
study to learn the law. Some professors fail to provide the tools -and
then it is up to the student to make up any deficiencies of the law
school professor. Much of a class room lecture is spent by a student
reciting the facts of the case and the legal conclusion. If that
student doesn't get the case right class time is spent berating
the student - not helping the student. Then time is spent on unrelated
banter interspaced with unstructured and at time rambling and
incomprehensible
lecture on the subject at hand. This is why Law Topic outlines came
into being
and became a multi-million dollar business. Then the major law text
book publishing took over the outline business when it became so wide
spread and a must for law school success. The outline gave the course
structure and organization where the professor failed to do so. Then
when it is time to take the bar examination- the candidate pays
$3000-$5000.00 for more outlines covering the subjects covered in the
bar examination. Then only about 50% pass the bar.
I am not criticizing the system-what
ULS is trying to say and emphasize is that
the student will do must do most of the work in order to be
successful.
University Law School.Net is a
